Elsie and I were walking along the river, looking for ducks, when I spied these neat little mini-pine-cone-type things.  Not sure what type of tree this is...

Here are few shots of the progression of this one:

First I blocked in the large shapes...

And try to get the overall value pattern...

And then go back in with highlights, details, and refine some edges...
